Samsung to launch 3D television in August

The World of entertainment is switching towards the 3D revolution, as in my earlier post about 3D revolution, depicts the fact that how people are generous about the 3D technology. Samsung is in a lead to launch the first 3D television globally in the first week of August. Apart from being a 3D TV, if also offers a unique feature of a touchscreen remote, which will enable the user to watch all channels on the remote itself.

The Expected price of Television would be Rs 440,000 for a Samsung Series 9000 in 55 inch model.

The world's slimmest 3D TV is set to debut in India which is Samsung series 9000 of 55 inch that is going to come at a price of Rs 440,000.

Ravinder Zutshi, deputy managing director , Samsung India, said

It is also the only company in India that has come out with a 3D range across the wide range of LCDs, the Plasma's and LED's televisions. There is an implementation of another technology known for converting the 2D stream to the 3D.

You Tube, One of the best place to upload video. and it also want the same to happen in future as well, many users requested this thing to happen before but never the less, You tube has officially announced the increment in the upload limit.

Now, any user can upload a longer video upto 15 mins. You tube encourages its user to make full advantage of this new time limit by making 15 minutes of fame. You tube has been working on improving their state of art content ID system and many other powerful tools for copyright owners.

With the success of technological efforts that You tube, it was able to increase the upload limit.

Top 10 IT Workplaces for Engineering Graduates

Every engineer like me must have thoughts about the their dream workplace in the future. Recently Employer branding company Universum listed the world’s Top 50 most attractive employers.  The list includes the preferencers of students from US, Japan, China, Germany, France, UK, Italy, Russia, Spain, Canada and India. Some 120,000 students from the world’s top academic institutions were part of the survey to choose their ideal workplace.

Here’s the Top 10 list

1. Google

The Search giant Google. Started by Stanford University students Larry Pages and Sergey Brin in 1997, Google continues to attract over 777,000 applicants a year.

One of the worst recession since Great Depression didn’t leave Google too untouched. The tough times made the company take a harder line on managing expenses. It pulled the plug on as many as nine of its new products, cut many jobs, and also some of its famous perks, including free food and drinks on the campus. The company has been known for its flexible timings and other perks.

2. Microsoft

At No. 2 on the list is world’s top software giant Microsoft. The software giant reigns on more than 90% of the world’s desktops through its popular Windows operating system. The company recently introduced a new OS Windows 7. Windows 7 succeeds Microsoft’s not-so-popular OS Vista.

Like all its IT peers the company too faced slowdown pangs. In a major restructuring, earlier this year Microsoft announced approximately 5000 job cuts.

3. IBM

Next most attractive employer for IT pros is business and technology solutions provider IBM at No. 3. The company has over 4 lakh employees worldwide.

Headquartered in Armonk, USA, the company offers IT infrastructure and BPO services, such as strategic outsourcing, business transformation outsourcing, integrated technology and maintenance.

The company recently announced a slew of layoffs in a bid to rein in expenses.

According to employee group Alliance@IBM, IBM layoffs may touch 16,000 by the year end.

4. Intel

At No. 5 on the overall list is the world’s largest chipmaker Intel. Earlier last month, Intel reaffirmed its outlook of flat to slightly higher PC sales growth in 2009. Four out of every five PCs sold the worldover are powered by an Intel microprocessor.

The company is known to place strong emphasis on family, extra-curricular activities and volunteerism.

5. Sony

Sony figures at No. 7 on the list of Best employer for engineering grads. The Japanese electronics and entertainment giant has been battered by the global slowdown, sliding prices of gadgets and its failure to produce new blockbuster consumer products.

In January this year Tokyo-based Sony Corp announced 8,000 job cuts, or 5 per cent of its global workforce. The layoffs are intended to cut costs by $1.1 billion a year.

The company’s extensive cost-cutting efforts are helping offset continued weak consumer demand and a strong yen, leading to a smaller-than-expected loss for its fiscal second quarter and an improved outlook for its fiscal year.

6. Siemens

At no 8 is Siemens. Siemens AG (Berlin and Munich) is a global powerhouse in electronics and electrical engineering, operating in the industry, energy and healthcare sectors.

The company has around 420,000 employees (in continuing operations) working to develop and manufacture products, design and install complex systems and projects, and tailor a wide range of solutions for individual requirements.

The company claims to be investing heavily in training employees, upgrading their professional qualifications and safeguarding their health.

7. Hewlett-Packard

World’s largest personal-computer maker, Hewlett-Packard is at No 12 on the list of most attractive employers for engineering grads.

The company has special employee volunteering programmes where they can serve the community for various causes. The company has special focus on employee development and training.

At HP, global virtual teams share resources and pool their brain power to solve business issues and meet personal goals.

However, facing global economic slowdown blues, HP announced a slash in employee compensation and benefits
cross globe. The company said that the move will save up to 20,000 jobs.

8. Cisco

Founded in 1984 by a small group of computer scientists from Stanford University, Cisco’s hardware, software, and service offerings are used to create Internet solutions. With more than 67,647 employees worldwide, the company’s mantra is to motivate employees for innovation.

Networking major Cisco bags the 13th spot on the list. The company has been one of the most aggressive companies on the technology M&A front.

9. Nokia

World’s top cellphone maker Nokia figures at the 19th spot on the list of Best employers. The mobile numero uno has been facing tough competition from companies like Apple in the smartphone market. Nokia also provides health-care services including medical check-ups, counselling and insurance programmes.
The company promises equal opportunities and openness towards all. Nokia is also said to host a variety of training activities through global network of Learning Centers.

10. Accenture

At No. 20 on the list is global management consulting, technology services and outsourcing company Accenture.

Earlier this month, Accenture reported a fall in quarterly profit and gave a weaker-than-expected outlook for the fiscal year that began in September.

According to company website, Accenture offers flexi-work timings, maternity returners programmes and women’s mentoring programmes.

iPhone4 available from October in India

iPhone 4 is all set to launch in india this october. An Airtel executive recently confirmed to Reuters that the company is planning to launch iPhone4 in India but around the September or October.

but there’s isn’t any price mentioned but it will obviously cost you more that a mid range of a laptop. It is also not known if Apple / Airtel will offer free bumpers to iPhone 4 owners in India.

Vodafone which is only other cellular operator that sells the iPhone in India has not confirmed their own launch dates yet, but still you are freak enough to buy one, don’t mind paying the premium, there’s always the unofficial route – buy a locked iPhone 4 from US and unlock it on your own or get one from either the UK or Canada. Apple is ‘officially’ selling unlocked iPhones in these countries and therefore they’ll work out-of-the-box with any GSM (micro) SIM.

The Search giant Google has a new update in Images domain. Since its launch in 2001, its turned out to be a one and only stop for all the image search. As Google is pretty good at organizing these types of information, but consider all the things you can't express with words, it helps you.

There's another announcement which Google had to make, a new ad format called Image search Ads. These ads will appear only on Google Images, and they let you include a thumbnail image alongside your lines of text. you can observe this changes rolling out in most of Google's local interfaces and worldwide over the next few days.

5 expected games in 2010-11 for extreme gamers

The complexity of the games releasing now a days is increasing, the level of gaming adventure the developers of the game product is very high when compared to the previous versions. The increase in graphic details also leads to increase in the hardware configuration as well, therefore you see a lot of manufacturers producing high quality graphic cards which could support the upcoming games.

1. Crysis 2

Its a most anticipated Sci-Fi first person shooter game developed by Crytek in 2010/11, it would be the first game to use game engine 3. Crysis which is a predecessor to this game, came up with bench mark setting graphics and excellent game play. Crysis 2 is set in New york City, Where players are enabled to navigate between floors and building structures, as well as destroy the cityscape. The developers claim that the new game will come up with catastrophically beautiful graphics. Crysis 2 will run more efficiently then the original game, easily accommodating to lower end computers.

2. Diablo 3

Blizzard has announced to release Diablo 3 next year. Diablo3 is another themed action role playing game which is sequel to the original game Diablo released in 1997. The game is set in the world of sanctuary, a world of dark fantasy which was saved years ago by the unnamed heroes in Diablo 2. The players from the Diablo 2 returns to Sanctuary to confront evil in its many forms. Diablo 3 is the best example of real playing game. Like its predecessor, the player takes the control of a heroic battle to get rid of the world of Diablo the lord of terror engaging in combat with hordes of monsters and challenging bosses. Game has an epic storyline where player gets to journey through different levels ultimately confronting the Diablo.

You can choose character classes and manage variety of spells and equipments. Players will also have the opportunity to explore familiar setting such as Tristram. Players will also encounter several new characters as well as a number of characters from the previous games including Deckard Cain. Like Diablo 2 multiplayers can play the game using Blizzard’s Battle.net service with exciting newly added features. Until now four of the five classes have been unveiled: the Barbarian, the Witch Doctor, the Wizard and the Monk.



New feature that have been unveiled includes: picking up the gold rather than just touching it, unique health orbs that drop from the enemy, several changes to the quick bar buttons and function keys, Skill Runes; another new skill modifying feature , numerous new spells, pick the desired gender. Diablo 3 is powered by custom 3D game engine; giving a view similar to isometric view used in previous games. Built in a unique 3D environment with exclusive death animations. Diablo 3 engine would be incorporated with Havok physics and features; destructible environment with an in-game damage effects.

3. Test drive Unlimited 2

Test drive Unlimited 2 is sequel to test drive unlimited. It is a massively open online racing game where players can get online and share their racing thirst with rest of the world. It blends the experience of single and multi-player racing, creating a world of racing challenges. Up to 8 players can join the session at a time which further spice up the racing experience. The game is set in the Mediterranean island of Ibiza with over 2,000 miles of roadway and back roads. The game includes new vehicles with massive customization, striking locations.



TDU2 will also offer free downloadable content DLC for vehicle packs, clothe packs, furniture pack and much more. You will be able to customize your avatar looks, pick different club logo, and furnish your home. New racing tricks and stunts further add value to the game. Getting your damaged car repaired manually, handling of car during racing, turning signals, exclusive vehicles, convertible roofs adds real racing experience to the game.

4. GTA 5

GTA series which is famous for its action, adventure, driving, and occasional role-playing, stealth and racing elements is planning to come up with its new installment in the series ; GTA 5. GTA 5 is expected to be released by the end of 2010 or the beginning of 2011. The game is expected to stay on top of the charts throughout 2011.

5. Hitman 5

Hitman 5 is to be released by the end of 2010 or the beginning of 2011, taking agent 47 in whole new direction. Also news came via page 17 of an Edios report claiming that the new Hitman 5 is in development. Hitman 5 is the fifth installment in the Hitman game series. It has been confirmed by the IO Community Manager that the game will not follow a story based on the movie.

For me Hitman 5 and GTA 5 would the most promising game to be played in the coming months. Lets see how the game market respond to these releases.

Today, Apple's CEO steve Jobs at the headquarters in Cupertino, took the stage to address the iPhone 4 antenna issue. As Apple has special style of presentation which always begins with a updates like stats etc. nearly 3 million.

The iPhone 4 is perhaps the best product we've ever made at Apple. We've sold well over 3 million since we launched it 3 weeks ago. It's been judged the number 1 smartphone...

After a few stats showcase, the conference started on the reception issue. Jobs made sure that he want to see people happy by providing the best product, showed the love towards his valuable customers. Hence to make his customer happy, there are few announcements. the first as expected, Apple will be providing a free bumpers and cases to all iPhone 4 users. and anyone who buys an iPhone 4 through September will get a case for free. He also noted that anyone who has already bought an iPhone 4 will get one for free. and if anyone has already bought one of Apple's bumpers, Apple will refund the cost.

Job's also stated that they can't make their own bumpers so fast enough to match the requirement. So what next ? Apple will be giving away other third party cases if users wants. That's cool.

And if after this, he is unable to make the customer a bit happier than before, there is a straight forward return offer, the user can return the iPhone at anytime in the first 30 days after purchase with no restocking fee.

Jobs started out with a light hearted youtube video about the Antennagate and says.

It doesnt seem like a good thing if you can touch your phone in a certain way and it loses signal,

The company has been working on the problem for 22 days. and desperately trying to solve the problem, he also compared his product with the other products in the smartphone race. taking a point that its not unique to the iPhone 4. Job's demonstrated how other phones (including a Blackberry 9700, an HTC Droid Eris, and a Smasung Omnia) have the same reception issues when gripped tightly.

We haven’t figured out a way around the laws of physics. Yet.

Another announcement made today was related to the white iPhone 4. The White iPhone 4 will be soon shiped at the end of July. Apple delayed the already-late white iPhone 4s just so they could better engineer a solution. Lets see the result at the end of the month.

Infosys to make policy for Social media

Infosys, One of the popular India's software company, plans to roll out a new policy listing the do's and dont's for their employees. The occurrence of such policy is due to many employees  presence in major social networking sites. Considering this fact the Senior Vice-President an Global Head, Human Resources (Infy), Nandita Gurjar quoted today.

We plan to roll out a social media policy shortly

It would be a policy akin to a code of conduct of the company and which employees would have to adhere to. Such a policy is prevalent outside India

The policy would mainly enlist do's and don't about revealing projects or client engagements,

The employees were free to air opinions but not to pass personal comments," she said agreeing there was a thin line between the two. Those breaching the policy once implemented would face disciplinary action, including warning and in worst cases termination from services

It was reported that some employees were found discussing projects and clients details on the networking sites, which of course is a breach of confidentiality, the aim for this policy is to stop such things and make the employees accountable for their comments on social websites.

Passing comments on any person in organization is also prohibited. The policy is expected ready and will soon be published in coming month.

The company also has dedicated pages to make the information common to all the employees about the various notification.

Recently during the bandh, we let employees know that they would be closed for the day through the social networking site,she said.

Microsoft releases windows 7 SP1 public beta

With growing effect of Avatar in Film content industry, Several movies are set to follow the 3D rule, Since 3D theatrical releases routinely earn more revenue than their 2D counterparts, it's no shock that Hollywood and the consumer electronics industry are eager to bring 3D into the home. And the focus isn't just on movies: 80 percent of PC games are currently available in 3D.

"Consumers are willing to pay more money to watch a movie in 3D than to watch it in 2D," notes Jennifer Colegrove, director of display technologies at DisplaySearch, citing 3D's immersiveness. "So [manufacturers] are naturally thinking about 3D for the home--on a computer, a notebook, a TV, a mobile phone."

We cant predict how much companies will charge for 3D TVs (or content). But industry executives have told me that they are aware of the risk of stifling 3D's prospects if they price it into the stratosphere.

So far, only Sony's top-of-line Bravia LX900 HDTV will come packaged with two pairs of glasses.

The challenge will be to get hardware into homes. "It's about presenting enough of a compelling story to get people excited about buying new equipment," says Rick Dean, chairman of the 3D@Home Consortium and VP of strategic development for THX. "New Blu-ray players are required. New displays are required. But it's not just about how we're going to deliver 3D content; it's about the user experience."

Soon, we can expect the 3D display replacing with the existing 2D displays.

Today, Apple published official letter to all the iPhone 4 users expressing their interest in solving the reception issue, Apple states iPhone 4 has been the most successful product launch in apple history as judged by reviewers around the world claiming it to be the best smartphone ever, and the love which the user showed up toward it.

How GPA is Calculated

Grades will be assigned to student for each course ( A = 4.0; B = 3.0; C = 2.0 ; D = 1.0; F = 0; )

And  each course has Credit Hours. Usually Graduate level courses will have 3 Credit Hours per course.

Lets’ say at end of the semester, professor assigns grade of B to Course Database, Grade A to Course Networks and Grade A to course Software Testing. GPA is calculated as follows

• Total Grades = Sum of (Grade * Credit Hours)= B*3 + A*3 + A*3 = 3*3+4*3+4*3 =33


• Total Credit Hours = 3+3+3 = 9


• GPA = Total Grades/Total Credit Hours = 33/9 = 3.66

I strongly suggest not to use convert percentage score to GPA using any of the formulas. When student asked about converting percentage to GPA, Yale University Admission officer, responded

No need for you to convert. We ask for your gpa and also the scale. You would just report the 78 and a scale of 10

As a software graduate, I have some personal feeling about the dream job which i would love to do and hence i am taking the most appropriate steps to reach there. So, i decided to share my thought on progressing towards your dream job.

Planning accordingly towards any task is the best step you can take. here you can prepare for the most probably questions that you can expect as a fresher in your first interview.

1. Tell me about yourself

The most common interview question which initiate a discussion and makes you comfortable with the interviewer. this also gives you the opportunity to steer the rest of your interview in your favor.

You can answers this by talking a bit about any work or any of your projects that you have an adequate experience. speak out your lead role experience and show your interest in guiding and motivating others.

The purpose of this question is to initiate a discussion and put you at ease. What it also does is give you the opportunity to steer the rest of the interview in your favor. You should know the right place to put a full stop to provoke the next desired question.

2. What activities did you undertake?

Elaborate a bit more on the your activities and explain clearly what roles you managed and how did you handle it.

3. What are your strengths?

To answer this question well, you need to do your homework before appearing for the interview. Analyze the role, gauge the qualities that are required in a person taking up the role and sell your personal qualities accordingly. For instance, if you are appearing for a position as software development trainee, sell your learning skills and logical abilities.

To make sure that you are able to convince the interviewer, present examples of each quality you quote.

4.Why should we hire you?

Explains the reasons why you are the most appropriate for the job role, compare and contrast your past relevant experience that would be need in the current job description.

5. What relevant skills do you have for this position that make you a good fit for this role?"

This question has the same answers related to why should we hire you ? So, collect understandable data to make your answer more meaningful.

6. What are you doing to overcome your weaknesses?

Freshers might find themselves in a situation where their 'weakness' is actually a matter of concern to the company. If that is the case, this question might just save you. For instance, if you state a short temper or lack of patience as your weakness, what you are doing to overcome it is important. You might have started practicing yoga or meditation to keep your cool. Tell this to the interviewer.

This gives the interviewer an insight into your personality and says that you are a person who is capable of identifying problems, analyzing them and solving them.

7. Are you ambitious? Where do you see yourself five years down the line?

The purpose of this question is to see how big you can think and what career plans you have. The other purpose of this question is to see if you are a serious, focused individual or not.

So, answer this question in a manner that communicates that while you are ambitious, you also value stability and you expect your prospective employer to offer you growth and stability in future.
