UAE telecommunications : BlackBerry services to be suspend

The UAE telecommunications is suspending some of the messaging and web services on blackberry smart phones, a day after it warned the device could pose a potential threat to the national. this news broke-out on the Sunday.

The Suspension date is announced as October 11. The problem arise from the fact that blackberry devices automatically send the user’s data to servers overseas, which means its violating the local law’s. This kind of transfer is only associated with blackberry devices, while the other phones can access the email and other web services.

When a device perform such encrypted action which is strictly against the law. which also makes harder for the analysts and also for the authorities to monitor.
With no solution available and in the public interest, in order to effect resolution of this issue, as of October 11, 2010, Blackberry Messenger, Blackberry E-mail and Blackberry Web-browsing services will be suspended until an acceptable solution can be developed and applied

Telecommunications Regulatory Authority director-general Mohamed al-Ghanim said in a statement.

Regulators said they had failed to reach an agreement with device maker Research in Motion on the issue.
The TRA notes that Blackberry appears to be compliant in similar regulatory environments of other countries, which makes noncompliance in the UAE both disappointing and of great concern

judicial, social and national security concerns for the UAE

he added.

Now, its up to the Blackberry to respond appropriately to the situation, and its also a wake up call for other smart phones in UAE.
