Facebook Adds New Places Products

Facebook, at an event in Palo Alto, CA, introduces a new product in Facebook, called the new places specially for their check-in's. Foursquare and Gowalla are currently famous for this feature. Facebook is partnering with both check-in's companies.

As expected by most of the Facebook users who usually check-in at different locations using either foursquare or gowalla, Facebook took this initiative which allows the users to publish their check-in's on their wall and also tag the places. Using the Facebook's new places API the data will be published on users Facebook Feed. The Pins and badges from application will also be transferred.

Though the Tag feature is expected to launch soon, Facebook API will be available. apart from Foursquare and Gowalla, Yelp and Booyah are also the launch partners for this new API. Booyah is in process of making a new app called InCrowd build on the Places API.

For iPhone users, the feature will be available from version 3.2, if you find the feature unavailable in your app, try re-downloading the app from the app store. you can see your friends who have recently checked in various places. also the check-in's will be sorted by those friends who are nearby and those who are elsewhere. that means your stream will show places check-in's as well. Still, on the touch.facebook.com version of the site the functionality is working and seems much more obvious.

This Social Network's location based platform will definitely attracts many advertisers, who would like to make most of this feature along with the Facebook Page. Facebook quoted
Once you claim your Place, you’ll be able to advertise it just as you advertise your Facebook Page. To advertise your Place, click “I want to advertise something I have on Facebook” in the ad creation flow and choose your Place from the drop-down menu.

These check-in's stories can generate powerful, organic impression in friend's news feeds, extending the brand's reach to new customers, he added.

lets see how 500 million Facebook users take this feature in to action.
