Social networking now costing U.K billions

Social media is becoming a part of our lives, but did any thought about the loss of productivity ? In view of getting an impact of social media, a British Job site MyJobGroup.co.uk had a poll on social media, this includes media sites like Facebook, Twitter, and MySpace.

The poll shows that many small businesses and British companies are at potential loss in productivity, out of 1,000 British workers polled, 6 percent admitted to spending an hour or more of the work day visiting social media sites.
Our results clearly show that UK workers are spending increased time whilst at work on social media networks, which, left unchecked, could have negative repercussions on the productivity of many companies across the country

said Managing Director of Myjobgroup.co.uk Lee Fayer.

What about the Net Impact? as an estimate Britain could lose up to 14 billion pounds, or equivalent to $22.26 US dollars loss.

Using services such as accessing friend feeds, tweets, posting photos and videos, and uploading comments and pictures to social media sites contributes to productivity loss.

Overdoing such things may also lead to severe loss, there should be a social responsibility towards the organization to which they represent.

Before any strict regulation imposed by organization, people should understand this fact and give the priority to their tasks.

Do write your opinion on what do you think about the social responsibility.

Gmail: Drag and Drop attachment to desktop

Gmail, e-mail service from Google, one of the most promising email service provider, there are several features attached to just an email thing. everyday we access dozens of e-mail file attachments and follow the conventional procedure of scan and download and attachment.

Google rethinks this strategy, and now it adds a special feature know as drag and drop your email attachments. It becomes much more simpler task now. People generally use a lot of desktop application, the looks and feels are quite addictive, acquiring the same set of features on a web based application is wonderful. We always associated the drag-drop features to a desktop app rather than the web.

With effect of this feature in Gmail, when you hover your mouse on an attachment you can see a tool tip which suggests you about the functionality it can perform, here it displays the message to click for viewing the attachment and drag to save on desktop.

Prior to this, dragging a file to attach in an email was introduced, and also dragging an image into a message. Though, this feature is only available in Google Chrome. we can expect the same thing to happen with other email service providers.

You can have latest hands-on news on all the Google related things on Googleblog.blogspot.com, official Google blog.

Google Images Update : Its all about images now!

The Search giant Google has a new update in Images domain. Since its launch in 2001, its turned out to be a one and only stop for all the image search. As Google is pretty good at organizing these types of information, but consider all the things you can't express with words, it helps you.

Coming to the number of images indexed by Google, here's some info:

  • In 2001 around 250 million

  • In 2005 around 1 billion

  • In 2010(Today) around 10 billion

Google apart from being fast at indexing the images, applied its techniques to make the search even more faster. This also makes the service invincible.

Google is now rolling out its updates in coming few days to match the scope and beauty of this fast growing visual web, with its powerful technology behind the images.

Here’s what’s new in this refreshed design of Google Images:

  • Dense tiled layout designed to make it easy to look at lots of images at once. We want to get the app out of the way so you can find what you’re really looking for.

  • Instant scrolling between pages, without letting you get lost in the images. You can now get up to 1,000 images, all in one scrolling page. And we’ll show small, unobtrusive page numbers so you don’t lose track of where you are.

  • Larger thumbnail previews on the results page, designed for modern browsers and high-res screens.

  • A hover pane that appears when you mouse over a given thumbnail image, giving you a larger preview, more info about the image and other image-specific features such as “Similar images.”

  • Once you click on an image, you’re taken to a new landing page that displays a large image in context, with the website it’s hosted on visible right behind it. Click anywhere outside the image, and you’re right in the original page where you can learn more about the source and context.

  • Optimized keyboard navigation for faster scrolling through many pages, taking advantage of standard web keyboard shortcuts such as Page Up / Page Down. It’s all about getting you to the info you need quickly, so you can get on with actually building that tree house or buying those flowers.

There's another announcement which Google had to make, a new ad format called Image search Ads. These ads will appear only on Google Images, and they let you include a thumbnail image alongside your lines of text. you can observe this changes rolling out in most of Google's local interfaces and worldwide over the next few days.

So leave a comment here and then install this awesome WordPress Plugin at your blog.

Up Next : 3D Revolution

This Concept of first 3d motion picture isn't new, But a growing number of recent Hollywood releases clearly show the revolution of 3D. With the success of "Avatar", the 3D has returned to cultural consciousness.

Though, 3D is being positioned not just for theatrical and professional venues but is also for homes. The electronics industry has been showing keen interest and putting the elements for a 3D revolution into place surprisingly quickly. Most of the consumer products is planning to launch the 3D enabled television and we can now have it in the market.

Summer will also see 3D-enabled Blu-ray players. For filmmakers, a 3d camera will arrive in the fall: Panasonic's $21,000,professional-grade Full HD camcorder will be able to record video from each of its twin lenses to SDHC cards. Now the Broadcasters are getting into the act, too. BSkyB is among the networks working on 3D channels. ESPN's channel, launching in June, will show 85 sporting events in 3D. And Sony is partnering with Discovery and Imax to have a 3D channel by 2011.

With growing effect of Avatar in Film content industry, Several movies are set to follow the 3D rule, Since 3D theatrical releases routinely earn more revenue than their 2D counterparts, it's no shock that Hollywood and the consumer electronics industry are eager to bring 3D into the home. And the focus isn't just on movies: 80 percent of PC games are currently available in 3D.
"Consumers are willing to pay more money to watch a movie in 3D than to watch it in 2D," notes Jennifer Colegrove, director of display technologies at DisplaySearch, citing 3D's immersiveness. "So [manufacturers] are naturally thinking about 3D for the home--on a computer, a notebook, a TV, a mobile phone."

Study shows that the consumers wants has begun and Sony is partnering with CBS to study what audiences expect from Home 3D. 40 percent of the respondents preferred 3D t 2D

We cant predict how much companies will charge for 3D TVs (or content). Clearly, 3D represents a new revenue stream, and consumer electronics makers will definately put some premium on it (simply because they'll have 3D on their top-tier products). But industry executives have told me that they are aware of the risk of stifling 3D's prospects if they price it into the stratosphere.

So far, only Sony's top-of-line Bravia LX900 HDTV will come packaged with two pairs of glasses.
The challenge will be to get hardware into homes. "It's about presenting enough of a compelling story to get people excited about buying new equipment," says Rick Dean, chairman of the 3D@Home Consortium and VP of strategic development for THX. "New Blu-ray players are required. New displays are required. But it's not just about how we're going to deliver 3D content; it's about the user experience."

Soon, we can expect the 3D display replacing with the existing 2D displays.

Apply directly to best software companies

Finding the dream company which you imagined throughout you study periods is not easy as it looks, you may get many opportunity but making the most of given opportunity is most important.

As a software graduate, I have some personal feeling about the dream job which i would love to do and hence i am taking the most appropriate steps to reach there. So, i decided to share my thought on progressing towards your dream job.

Planning accordingly towards any task is the best step you can take. here you can prepare for the most probably questions that you can expect as a fresher in your first interview.

1. Tell me about yourself

The most common interview question which initiate a discussion and makes you comfortable with the interviewer. this also gives you the opportunity to steer the rest of your interview in your favor.

You can answers this by talking a bit about any work or any of your projects that you have an adequate experience. speak out your lead role experience and show your interest in guiding and motivating others.

The purpose of this question is to initiate a discussion and put you at ease. What it also does is give you the opportunity to steer the rest of the interview in your favor. You should know the right place to put a full stop to provoke the next desired question.

2. What activities did you undertake?

Elaborate a bit more on the your activities and explain clearly what roles you managed and how did you handle it.

3. What are your strengths?

To answer this question well, you need to do your homework before appearing for the interview. Analyze the role, gauge the qualities that are required in a person taking up the role and sell your personal qualities accordingly. For instance, if you are appearing for a position as software development trainee, sell your learning skills and logical abilities.

To make sure that you are able to convince the interviewer, present examples of each quality you quote.

4.Why should we hire you?

Explains the reasons why you are the most appropriate for the job role, compare and contrast your past relevant experience that would be need in the current job description.

5. What relevant skills do you have for this position that make you a good fit for this role?"

This question has the same answers related to why should we hire you ? So, collect understandable data to make your answer more meaningful.

6. What are you doing to overcome your weaknesses?

Freshers might find themselves in a situation where their 'weakness' is actually a matter of concern to the company. If that is the case, this question might just save you. For instance, if you state a short temper or lack of patience as your weakness, what you are doing to overcome it is important. You might have started practicing yoga or meditation to keep your cool. Tell this to the interviewer.

This gives the interviewer an insight into your personality and says that you are a person who is capable of identifying problems, analyzing them and solving them.

7. Are you ambitious? Where do you see yourself five years down the line?

The purpose of this question is to see how big you can think and what career plans you have. The other purpose of this question is to see if you are a serious, focused individual or not.

So, answer this question in a manner that communicates that while you are ambitious, you also value stability and you expect your prospective employer to offer you growth and stability in future.

Apart from these questions you can expect any random questions which depends on the employer.
